MEET JAY
My name is Jay Farrell—a Nashville-based documentary photographer, explorer, and published author. I’m based in East Nashville, where I live with my rescue Boxer mix, Molly.
My background is in photojournalism, street photography, and fine art photography. Staying true to those roots has shaped both my approach and my brand: observation over orchestration, and genuine moments over manufactured ones.
I love supporting small local businesses, heading out on photography excursions—whether a few miles down the road or across the country—and finding something worth photographing along the way.
That same instinct carries into the work I do today. I’m interested in photographs that feel real: the elated, the silly, the unexpected, and the poignant. I’d rather observe what’s happening than manufacture it.
Proposal and lifestyle photography-
With a similar approach, my objective is to get to know you, understand your needs, and tell your story as you accomplish a milestone moment—or a routine activity you wish to translate to photos. When work begins with the person proposing, I provide communication, local insight and personalized service—then lurk in the shadows to complete my task.
What about headshots?
I pride myself on efficient service—clients often need headshots on a short notice basis, and not all enjoy the thought of being the subject. It's a more enjoyable experience for the client when it's a brief and painless process, and even better when their headshot is well lit and flattering. Tasteful and subtle retouch is included. In studio or outdoor headshots are available; complete with electronic proofing and file delivery. If this sounds like you, this is the place to come for headshots in Nashville.
Oh yeah, and......
I'm a Fujifilm / Leica photographer, and believe it's important for the experience of photography to remain fun. To learn about my published books featuring my fine art photography, check out my author website.
