Nashville’s documentary wedding photographer
and headshot studio.
While at the Fujifilm conference in Bath, UK, I learned about the Smart Slides program, for easy to make digital photo slideshows. I’ve been using iPhotos app on my Mac which also works. But the problem I always ran into, what music works for what wedding? I’d spend what seemed like an hour searching iTunes for the right song to buy. Then it seemed my slideshows were too long. I like a good selection of highlights of the event that tell a collective story, not to the point of redundancy however. I had only been offering digital slideshows for maybe two years, and my skills have improved some. But I was looking for other solutions. Now a month into using Smart Slides, I will provide my Pixellu Smart Slides review. Take it for what it’s worth. Here’s a sample slideshow from a recent wedding.
One thing about the Smart Slides program, it’s easy to use, and support is helpful. There is even a users group on Facebook. I’ve found that helpful. The other SUPER cool thing is music beat matching! If you watch the above slideshow, and follow the beat of the music, the photo transitions into the next at every other beat. The kicker is, you must use a specific amount of photos to enable beat matching with each song. Some have options of faster or slower tempo depending on the song. That’s my favorite thing about the program! Plus, 2-3 minutes is perfect. My previous 5 minute slideshows are harder to keep viewers’ attention. They host your slideshows and you can download them as well. Here’a another short and sweet slideshow from a recent lifestyle photoshoot, turned surprise proposal!
Overall synopsis of my Pixellu Smart Slides review-
I love it! My only complain, which the staff and ownership know about, they need better music selection. I’m confident they will be addressing this, as it’s a commonly discussed topic in the users group. Any questions or comments, ask away.
I was emailed by Lisa about doing a lifestyle couples photoshoot at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, and I learned some of their story. Part of the process is learning about the couple, whether with wedding photography, engagement, or lifestyle and proposal photography. Forming relationships is as equally rewarding as making great photos, it’s a symbiotic relationship between the two.
Don and Lisa met on Zoosk, a dating website, and they’ve been together for one year. Ready for the kicker? They had a private ceremony at their home church earlier in the day of this photoshoot! They made the drive to Nashville to stay at the Gaylord and enjoy a weekend together, as an immediate mini honeymoon. As with any of my lifestyle photoshoots, they were not directed. You just couldn’t NOT document the love they have for each other.
One interesting hurdle, the day I did this shoot, I had broken my toe a couple days before, so I was hobbling along. I wasn’t moving around like a teenager. But when I texted Lisa later that week to let her know the online gallery was up, I told her they looked like teenagers and so connected! It was my job to watch for the magical moments and capture the natural love and sweet human interaction between them.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this lovely lifestyle couples photoshoot at the Gaylord Opryland resort. Congratulations Don and Lisa!!
I’ve corresponded with Tiffany and Mikey mostly over email and a phone call, regarding their wedding photography. The couple lives in South Carolina, so geography got in the way of us meeting in person, until now! They came to Nashville over the Summer to visit and work on details for the wedding at Terian Farms, their wedding venue. It only made sense to do some Terian Farms engagement photos and meet up, have some fun together and get some nice photos!
Tiffany and Mikey met at a wedding of a mutual friend and hit it off. Mikey lived on the outskirts of Chicago, and Tiffany, in South Carolina. They both decided the long distance thing sucked, and Mikey relocated to South Cakkalakky! This Fall, they’ll be getting married at Terian Farms! I’m honored to document not only their engagement photos, bur their amazing wedding day too!
Tiffany and Mikey aren’t into posing for photos, and like to live naturally, rather than orchestrated. I couldn’t agree more. Posing sucks, so it’s a good thing we came together and my natural documentary approach is right for them.
Feeding the horses, all of them liked carrots, and all but one liked apple slices.
The lush greenery and rolling hills are well manicured and colorful even in the height of the Summer, this view can’t be beat!
Here’s Ruby the cat, she’s so friendly and sweet! I wonder if Teri would notice if I took her with me? LOL.
One thing I love doing for engagement photos is to observe the document the couple doing their day out, and capturing organic interaction.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these Terian Farms engagement photos with Tiffany and Mikey! It was amazing to finally meet them and work with them, and I can’t wait for the wedding! Storytelling time!
Tourist lifestyle photography has become a fairly popular aspect of my business. I serve people visiting Nashville wanting surprise proposals documented, engagement photos, day in the life photos, or other lifestyle photos. I can offer them an organic un-posed alternative to forced poses and expressions. For example, these 3 couples traveled to Nashville together. The day we met up, it was very hot and humid, but they were good sports. When people are visiting, it’s my job to accommodate and even be somewhat of a tour guide. Picking locations based on the personality of the subjects is an important part of the service. Amy and Johnny needed engagement photos, we’ll start with them.
Getting to know a bit about the couples or individuals I’m photographing helps me personalize their shoot. Both with choosing the best setting and locations that are relevant to them, and how I compose and light the photos. The next couple, Mark and Judy were celebrating their 40th anniversary! How exciting, and they had so much personality and energy for each other and life, humbling indeed!
All 3 couples were visiting from both Texas and New Mexico, but enjoying their time in Nashville. I know what it’s like to have to savor each day on vacation, and their vacation time is valuable too. So it’s important to me to document their memories and make a fun experience for them. Next couple, Dana and Justin, for their first anniversary!!
At the end, I laid on the ground to get a different angle of them with the bridges in the background. I felt something biting me, maybe fire ants. I splashed river water on me, which probably killed them instantly. I felt even dirtier and stickier. Now a walk back to 6th and Church, and crank the A/C! But first, a nice sunset. I hope you’ve enjoyed this batch of tourist lifestyle photography with these 3 lovely couples!
Meet Drew and Alyssa. They live in a small Midwestern city, and took their first vacation together as a couple, to Nashville! Alyssa contacted me and told me they’ve never had a proper photoshoot together and wanted a fly on the wall documenting their day out without awkward poses. They came to the right documentary photographer for that. However, I had no idea the day in the life photoshoot would be an unexpected marriage proposal, but I love it! Follow along, you’ll see.
Alyssa and Drew have been together for four years, and this vacation means a lot to them. It wasn’t possible until now because Drew completed a grueling medical residency program and now works as an ER doctor which is remarkable. As I told him, that’s amazing and noble, but I hope to not need your services. Alyssa also had to complete her education and now she educates America’s children by being a teacher! So, life has happened, but now they’re living the dream!
Drew went to college with Alyssa’s brother, so that mutual connection is what brought them together.
This is the part that neither Alyssa or I knew was coming! But that’s what made it even better! Both of them are somewhat reserved and modest, but this really showed spontaneity and creativity on Drew’s part! I saw him get down on his knee and I thought, wow, is this happening? Yes! Yes, it is! All I could hear was yes!
It was fun documenting the natural moments of interaction between them as they collect their thoughts. I am so happy for Alyssa and Drew and was honored to be entrusted to document this unexpected marriage proposal in downtown Nashville! I think the highlight of the experience was not knowing what milestone would happen! Congratulations guys, and I look forward to hearing more of your news!!
