This is an exciting day to share with you my recent Mitchell House LGBT wedding, in Lebanon, TN! Meet Anthony and Brian! I was delighted to hear from them and learn their story when they were in search of their wedding photographer. Anthony is in medical device sales, and Brian is a graphics designer. They are both Iraq war veterans and have been together for 10 years. With the progress with Supreme Court rulings in other States, they decided the time has come for them to experience marriage equality for themselves. In the process they’d pave the way for other LGBT couples.
When I met with them during the planning stages, they had their venue selected, which turned out to be a great choice. The staff were very supportive and the historic charm of the venue complimented their event perfectly. When they first met with me, they explained that the LBGT friendly wedding photographers they looked at, they weren’t overly impressed with their style, and they wanted an organic, more journalistic wedding photographer with good use of light and composition, overall attention to detail. I was honored they chose me as their wedding photographer!
This was Anthony (left) and Brian (right) getting ready at the A Loft Hotel Cool Springs. Their families were there too, so my assistant I were there to capture some of the pre festivities!
Everyone is in the lobby waiting for the luxury bus from Signature Transportation to soon arrive, that would take us all to the Mitchell House. When photographing a wedding, it’s about telling a story, and this was definitely an important part of it that I’d have missed if I just met them at the venue.
And we arrived at the Mitchell House! We had to get it together quick because the ceremony would soon start, LOL! But had to catch some details on the fly. Catering was done by Sammy B’s at The Mill in Lebanon. They were gracious to feed us later, delicious food!
Had to get this beautiful cake before the time came to ravage it. Handy work by Frosted Affair in Spring Hill.
Ceremony time! I loved how animated Brian’s nieces are, the moments before!
Congratulations gentlemen! Now for some fun moments and couples’ photos before going onto the reception 😀
And, time for the couple to make their entrance!
Guests start to consume fine edibles, they had roast beef and chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, etc. and we grabbed a quick bite ourselves. The servers from Sammy B’s were on top of it!
It was the weirdest thing. I went outdoors to capture some outdoor area guests mingling, and I see some ladies and a bunch of children gathered around this tree. I had to go investigate, turns out there were baby kittens living in the hollow part of the trunk, we weren’t sure where the mother was, but here it is! A wedding first for me.
Anthony and Brian would soon be done greeting their guests and enjoying dinner, so I went back in for the first dance!
Time for the cake to get it’s ass kicked by knife, LOL!
Now time for the speeches, interesting the audience participation. Some are more subdued and just soaking it in, others feel very physically inspired as you see 🙂
The children got the ball rolling for the adults on the dance floor! Party / DJ compliments of Nashville Party Authority.
Went for a slightly different documentary wedding photography feel, shot through the front door glass from outside in. Something I had to try to add to that fly on the wall candid feel I like at weddings, and the cool thing was no one knew I was there.
Part 2, speeches, back to observing and capturing 🙂
Back to open dancing before the bus comes to take us back to the hotel! Like I tell some of my couples, I’m not leaving until I see some gettin down! I hope you’ve enjoyed their story! Congratulations Anthony and Brian! This wedding has been a pleasure. Such a fun and kind couple, and family and guests were the same way, and so supportive and happy for them. As the design is supposed to go.
